What is your name?
Where are you from?
Trinidad and Tobago.
What made you decide to loc your hair?
I always loved locs because my dad has locs and watching him while growing up made me want the same freedom he had with his hair. Never had the patience for hairdressers and hated having tons of products in my hair so locs seemed like the best option for me and to this day I won’t have it any other way.
How long have you been loc’d?
I’ve been loc’d for 8 strong years and yes I went through the “short phase” but I soldiered through it till now my mane is one of my greatest joys.
What do you do for loc maintenance?
I always air dry those blow dryers are no good for locs. I use the oils to moisturize my scalp and the rose water mixed with distilled water to keep the locs moisturized.
If you use products, what’s your favorite product?
My product list is short, coconut oil, Jamaican black castor and rose water and to wash I use “lime and mango tingling shampoo”.
Because I live in the caribbean it is relatively easy to find a source of fresh water (waterfall) to wash my hair (although sometimes I’m left at the mercy of my shower)
Any advice you would give to someone who wants locs?
My advice to anyone wanting to start their locs or on their journey is just let your hair be, don’t over work it. Feed yourself well and give your hair nutrients from within as much as you do from outside.
Random Question: What is your favorite kind of food?
My fav food curry chicken (not chicken curry *a caribbean joke) with potatoes and white rice
