Joseph Renick, a 54 year-old white male, “was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm Thursday” according to the Atlanta Black Star. Renick was found guilty for the killing of 15-year-old Sentonio Cox. Renick is being held on a $500,000 bond.
A teenage friend of Sentonio told St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he was walking home, cutting through an empty lot as a usual shortcut, at the time of his murder. Sources say Cox was backing away from Renick with his hands up before he was shot in the head and left to die. His body was discovered by authorities after being reported missing. During this time there was “at least 13 shootings of children in St. Louis under the age of 16“. Just 48 hours before Sentonio’s body was found, 8-year old Jurnee Thompson was shot and killed outside of a St. Louis preseason high school football game.
