Man Scams Over 30 Victims Out Of 2 Million Dollars With Fake Dating Profiles

A New Jersey man, 35-year-old Rubbin Sarpong, was arrested for allegedly scamming more than 30 victims out of 2 million dollars by making fake dating profiles and finessing unsuspecting people of out their money.

According to ABC News, “Sarpong concocted online dating profiles mostly portraying US military personnel stationed overseas and looking for romance. The profiles were actually made up, using fictitious or stolen identities federal prosecutors in Camden, New Jersey said.”

U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced in a press release that Sarpong has been charged with with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Sprang is scheduled to appear before a federal judge on Wednesday afternoon and is looking at a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
